PS3 3.50 and/or 3.55 caused bluray issue with my FAT 80GB system

I did resolve the issue… but I lost 3 years of saved games… including my sons Little Big Planet game which he was almost at 100%… Anyhow, here is an snippet of the on going horseshit I am getting from the PSN helpless desk…

Funny, the error message that I got was cryptic and didn’t specify that I didn’t have enough space on my USB stick.

I read this:

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/backuputility.html

So, please be kind and point out where the reference is to the 10GB requirement to back up data to a USB drive.

That is like going to the washroom, flushing the toilet and the water splashes up on your face. Only to turn around and see a sign on the back of the door telling you “Warning, water from the toilet may splash you in the face.”

Hello Greg,

I apologize for any inconvenience you may have endured. my best guess would be that you do not have enough memory on your USB flashdrive. It is recommended to use a 10gb flashdrive, for the amount of data you are trying to backup.

I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to email me back.

Late last night I did a system recovery and that seemed to resolve the issue… Now, before I did the system recover I attempted to use the backup utility to save to a USB device and that kept on failing. So, I lost all of my saved games and downloaded content. Some of the content I will be downloading again, but now I have lost progress in all mine and my sons games (PS2 and PS3 saved games). Can’t say for sure what caused the backup to fail if it was the update or another issue. But I had 70 GB of my
80GB machine used. The USB stick was FAT32.

I have two PS3 systems. I have one of the newer slim models and one of the 80 gb FAT models. With the holidays coming and new games coming into the household, I imagine some updates will be needed for some titles. Now, I have been reading about issues with 3.50 and older players destroying the blu-ray players. How safe is it to update the older system? From what I am reading, not very at all.

Hello Greg,

We apologize for any confusion you are having regarding the system updates for your PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

It is perfectly fine to do a system update for your PlayStation®3. This is a update for your system software, not hardware. You should not have a problem.

Regards,
Nicholas C

My son updated the system and immediately after the update, the blu-ray stopped working. As you can see, I e-mailed asking the question when my system was working fine. I run the update, restart the system and it doesn’t read blu-ray disks. Old ps2 are fine, but ps3 and blu-ray discs don’t work! As mentioned, xmas is around the corner and now because of this glitch on sony’s part, my son won’t be able to play the new titles that we bought him including the Move, not to mention the other games he plays all the time!

You know, I hate when these guys think they are talking to people that don’t know shit. I have a Slim system as well and when I put in the memory stick in that system for a backup, it told me that I needed X GB more space. Fine, that is a valid error message. It tells me what I need to do. On the FAT system, I got spewed crap from the second I attempted to use the same USB stick. It didn’t check for space requirements, it just crapped out.

Personally, doesn’t bother me about losing the saved games. That’s fine. But my son is still upset about the time that he put into (as well as my time helping him on the 2X player challenges) to achieve 100% on little big planet. I think the least Sony should do in this case is send my son a voucher for Little Big Planet 2 when it comes out.

Oh, and if you thought of going over to the playstation community to help you with your issue, you will just come across a bunch of ass clowns and fan boys that will tell you that there is nothing wrong with the update and your system is old and is bound to fail. Which to them I say, “Go fuck yourself! This is a common problem and the symptoms are repeatable. Playstation updated their firmware with an update for 3D compatibility and in the process fucked up older systems.”

Here is the thread I posted to.

Pope addresses sex abuse scandal as he starts visit to Britain – CNN.com

The pope recently visited Britain where he made statements that I believe to be false or just show ignorance to the victims of child abuse at the hands of church officials.

Pope addresses sex abuse scandal as he starts visit to Britain – CNN.com
“These revelations were for me a shock and a great sadness. It is difficult to understand how this perversion of the priestly ministry was possible,” he told reporters aboard his plane to Scotland. “How a man who has done this and said this can fall into this perversion is difficult to understand.”

He added, “It is also a great sadness that the authorities of the church were not sufficiently vigilant and insufficiently quick and decisive in taking the necessary measures.”

Here is what I said about the article:

“Really? Shocking? How do you know the pope is lying? Words are coming out of his mouth!”

Renovations Complete!!!!!

Finally! Completed the kitchen today with the window trim being the last thing that needed to go back up. Stayed close to being on budget even though we picked out some pricier things. Had the dryer go on us during the renos so we decided to pick up a new front loading washer and dryer. Will be interesting to see how it will affect our power bill as the previous dryer took about 90 minutes to dry a regular load and this new dryer/washer combo is only about 45 minutes.

Anyhow, no major snags except for the faucet being on back order until MAY!!! We got the display faucet instead and they took $100 off the price.

Here are a list of Companies we and folks we used during the renovations:
Rick McEwen – I have been using Rick to do all my renovations and I would highly recommend him. He built my cabinets and his father built the cabinet doors and I am very please with the outcome.
Cut River Rock – you may have noticed the stone in the island from the pictures. That is real beach stone and I was able to pick it up from a couple down in Oak Bay, NB. I will be visiting them again I think as I have a fair amount of Stone Veneer on my home now and I am thinking of adding more.
Bob’s Kitchen Shop – Tim Beatty was a real help to me. Extremely friendly! I bought my quartz counter-top and handles and sliding garbage bins from his store.
Eddy Group – Bought my faucet and sink from them. Other then the delivery times being way off. I am pleased with the products. As mentioned, my faucets were on back order for almost 2 months they gave me the display model for $100 off the price.
Domus Flooring in Quispamsis – My hardwood and tile and some design ideas came from the folks there. Very accommodating and lots of nice products.
Other materials came from Home Hardware and Kent.

Head shots and hockey… and what should be considered a legal play

Everybody was all horny in the NHL last week when a player… a supposed star play was blind sided by Matt Cooke. I have been calling head shots dirty hits for years. Now, I am going to show you a video of a clean hockey hit that if it had happened two weeks earlier, would not have been called because no one was making a stink about it.

In this video, you will see a pansy named Milan Lucic perform a drop pass. He then admires his pass and Andei Kostitsyn lowers the shoulder on him. Kostitsyn makes a shoulder on shoulder hit and was made within a half a second from Lucic releasing the puck. The refs gave him a interference penalty.

Now, from two weeks earlier, we see Matt Cooke absoulutley cream Andre Savard from the Bruins from the blind side. No penalty, no suspension.

Anyhow, the dumb CBC guys were calling Kostitsyn’s hit a dirty hit. Reason #1 of why I don’t watch hockey on the English speaking CBC. They rarely get the players names on the Habs correct. Same gets applied to the Sens as well. Unless it’s the last place Leafs, they don’t care about any other Canadian team. The Bruins are playing and the commentators sound like a home team announcers for the Bruins. Fucking jokers lead by Don Cherry! I watch all the Hab games in French even if I don’t speak a word of French.

More Renovations on the go

It’s that time of year again. More renovations. On the list this year, we are replacing our slate floors with yellow birch hardwood natural stain and ceramic tiles. We are getting new kitchen cabinets and updating the kitchen layout by changing the kitchen from a U shape to an L shape and adding an island. We are going with custom made cabinets (knotty pine) and a quartz counter top. The stairs leading to the top floor will finally be finished. They will be birch treads. For the top floor, we are putting hardwood over our softwood floor. Now, I liked the look of the slate and I liked the softwood, but when they had laid the slate 30 years ago, they had spaced the grout too far apart making the floors look dirty all the time. The softwood floor actually has a dual purpose. Not only is it a floor, but it’s also the ceiling for out main floor. The pine floor is 3 inches thick and 6 inches wide double tongue and groove. Insane right? From what I have been told, you can’t buy that stuff is pretty expensive. The problem with it is when it was laid 30 years ago, the wood wasn’t fully kiln dried. The wood shrank in spots and in those spots, you can see clear through to our main floor. We are also replacing the god awful lighting in the home. Along with this, we are also doing some electrical work. Hoping to be done before the end of February.

I will have some renovation before and after pictures on this blog post soon. I got a new wide angle lens for my camera and I am looking to try it out.

Killed a Squirrel today

Driving Alexander to school today, I was taking the back roads where it isn’t uncommon to see all kinds of creatures pacing back and forth on the road. Today I had to slow down for some deer crossing. Not a big deal. Then I took off again going about 100 km/h when a squirrel ran out into the middle of the road. If the stupid thing just stayed put, he would have been fine. But as it is, he decided to ran back to where he came from. SPLAT! I ran over him. Whoops! I have been driving these back roads for 3 years now and this is my first road kill. And I was just thinking about that the other day. What would the odds be of me hitting an animal on those back roads. As it turns out, for me anyhow, my chances of hitting a animal on those back roads are about 1 in 600. I will update the odds the next time I smoke an animal.
