Got to get this off my chest. You go out and you spend $20 dollars on a Christmas gift… yes, atheists join in on the holiday gift giving because nothing is less religious then a Christmas tree with presents bought from Toy ‘R Us or Futureshop under it. So, you pay $20 dollars for the gift and then someone says to you “what about the card?” Well, what about it? The person doesn’t give a shit if there is a card. The sticker on the box clearly reads To you From me. I don’t need to spend another $5 on a piece of paper to tell you that or to wish you some stupid Christmas cheer. If you decide to give a card, make it something special. Get a piece of cardboard out and glue some paper on it and write whatever is on your mind. I often refrain from posting my thoughts that run through my head on the card. People may find it funny, or they may find it psychotic. Either way, there may not be an appropriate audience for that at that time.

If you are getting a present from me this year, don’t expect a card cause I ain’t giving you one you selfish bastard!

I am starting to look around for either a new or second car. The cars that I am looking at right now are:

Mazda 5 GT

Toyota Matrix XR FWD

Hyundai Elantra GT 5-door

The Matrix and the Mazda are both about $24,000 before taxes and the Hyundai is like $20,000. I am looking to lease, because I already own a car. My lease payments for a 48 month period would be:

Mazda $420.24

Toyota $417.79

Hyundai $308.20

Likes about the Mazda:

Great room (6 seats)

Ample power 157 HP

It’s a van, but it’s actually cool looking

Dislikes about the Mazda:

Sucks on gas!

Likes about the Toyota:

Reliable trademark

Good room

Good reviews from owners

Great on gas

Dislikes about the Toyota:

Pay through the nose for extras

Likes about the Hyundai:

Get a lot for your money

I have owned 3 Hyundai vehicles and have never had any major issues except for a 10 year old Excel that had engine issues after my oil filter cracked on the highway and I lost all my engine oil! I consider that a fluke more than a defect of the car.

Great on gas

Dislikes about the Hyundai:

History of low re-sale value

People have often asked me what is a slang or derogatory word to describe a Greek. My wife calls me a “Greasy Greek” when she is pissed at me. I guess that would piss off most Greeks. But I guess the international word would be to call a Greek a malakas. I guess it couldn’t really be more obvious. Greeks use the word as often as English folk use the word “fuck”.

According to Greek sources malakas derives from the ancient Greek word “malthakos (????????)’”, which meaning “soft” or “spoilt, well-used to luxuries of life”. In modern Greek, the word malakas is used metaphorically in everyday speech to define the individual that uses no common sense, who instead repeats the same mistakes many times over, while maintaining an attitude of self-righteousness. The relation is probably derived by the common notion according to which excessive masturbation harms the brain. While various swear words wax and wane in popularity, malakas is quite unaffected by phenomena such as this, being characterised by a certain timelesness. In addition, in parts of the world outside Greece, with significant Greek population (e.g. the States), the word malakas appears well known among non-Greek people too. This is perhaps an example of significant cultural exchange.

It falls into the class of slang where it is appropriate to use amongst friends, but may be considered an insult when used against strangers or enemies.

So, if you are cool enough with your Greek friend and aren’t afraid of getting a punch in the mouth, greet him with “Hey you fuckin’ malaka!” I guarantee you they will enjoy the kind gesture.

I tried on pairs of cleats and turf soccer shoes this weekend and I noticed something, my feet have gotten a 1/2 size bigger. I know this because I always buy Adidas Copa Mundial size 9 US. They had a pair at the store, but they were 9 and 1/2 US. I thought that can’t be right. So I picked up Umbro K Leather Turf shoes instead at size 9. I figured they would stretch and everything would be alright. Well, I got home and wore them around the house for about 1 hour. When I took them off, my toes were numb. Now I think I will return them and get the Copas at size 9 and 1/2.

I would make a joke about limbs getting bigger, I think I will leave that subject alone.

I recently activated The Movie Network: OnDemand and I have to tell ya, I don’t think I will ever go back to watching regularly scheduled programs. With a subscription to The Movie Network, I am able to select almost any one of their titles and view the program any time I want. This works great for me because I hate having to work my schedule around the networks programming. So, in the past, I just wouldn’t watch the programs. With more and more people switching to digital cable and PVRs, I can see programming really changing once people have a choice of what they really want to watch. I don’t know how many times in the past I have been turned off to a program because a network has “Given it a new timeslot.” Fuck that! In the past 10 years, I have watched the scheduled programs of X-Files and Carnivale.

Unfortunately, both those series ending with nothing really being solved. I think X-Files actually Jumped the shark. Carnivale, didn’t have the following that HBO wanted for this high budget series. I actually think they cancelled it so that they could show the high budget Rome series in it’s place.

Anyhow, I have started watching Curb Your Enthusiasm with the new On Demand. I also plan on watching Rome as well, although I did originally boycott the series because it took Carnivale’s place.

Here are the highlights with OnDemand:

1. What is it?
The Movie Network OnDemand allows you to view a fantastic selection of movies and series when you want, as often as you want, all with the pause, rewind, fast-forward capabilities you get from your VCR or DVD player. Best of all, The Movie Network OnDemand is FREE with your subscription to The Movie Network.

2. What’s on it?
The Movie Network OnDemand offers you instant and unlimited access to over 100 movies, HBO & Showtime series and original programming. No waiting. No schedules. The movies and series you want to watch when you want to watch them. The Movie Network OnDemand refreshes the library of available titles every Tuesday so that there is always something new for you to enjoy.

3. When is it available?
With your subscription to The Movie Network, you can watch any of the programs available on The Movie Network OnDemand at any time, day or night FREE of charge. The Movie Network OnDemand puts you in control.
