Students devastated by Sackville apartment fire

I remember when Michelle and I first moved into an apartment. The two requirements were that we own a vacuum cleaner and had insurance. Insurance was like $100 for the year. One day I got a call at work that the apartment was on fire so I rushed home and Michelle and Alexander were outside and okay. One of the apartments went up in flames. Luckily the damage was only done to that one unoccupied apartment. But I remember talking to the tenants that lived below that apartment and they said they had a fair amount of smoke damage. I mentioned that they should look to their insurance to replace the smoke damaged items. They said they didn’t own any. I have seen this a lot. Just pay the $100 bucks and save yourself some grief.

When Bailey started renting the place, he said it didn’t occur to him to buy insurance. He didn’t even know it was an option. He figures he’ll have to start again from scratch.

Update: Thanks for the video Bill!

Toddler injured after falling from moving car

I guess Moncton is full of retards too.

CBC New Brunswick – Toddler injured after falling from moving car
A two-year-old boy is in hospital in stable condition after falling out of a moving car in Dieppe on Monday morning.

The toddler, who was not in a safety seat, fell out of the car as it was turning on Paul Street. He was then hit by the rear wheel of the vehicle.

Codiac RCMP Const. Mike Gaudet says police arrived at the scene just before 11 a.m. He says the driver has been ticketed for not having the child in a safety seat.

“It’s been determined that there was no car seat in the vehicle, and so therefore the child was not buckled securely, and would have maybe reached for the door handle, and that’s how the door of the vehicle swung open.”

Group suggests red-light district for Moncton

Ya know, Montcon is really behind in times. They really need a couple of brothels to spice things up.

CBC New Brunswick – Group suggests red-light district for Moncton

The City of Moncton should consider creating a red-light district in an industrial park, a group fighting prostitution in the downtown core says.

Lise Mersereau delivered a 400-name petition to Moncton city council on Tuesday, begging members to banish the sex trade from residential neighbourhoods.

Moncton awarded 2010 world jr. track event

I wonder why Saint John would not have put a bid in for this? They already have the facilities via the 1985 Canada Games. Mind you they have been taking away most of the stands and flood lights in recent years due to the fact that groups aren’t allowed to use it! Anyhow, good for Moncton.

Moncton has been awarded the 2010 IAAF world junior track and field championship.

The New Brunswick city actually lost out to Bydgoszcz, Poland in bidding for the 2008 championships, which needed a second ballot before prevailing 15-11 at a meeting of the IAAF Council in Japan on Wednesday.

Following the vote, the Council decided to award Moncton the 2010 event.

“Council fully supported the ambitions of Moncton and Athletics Canada to organise a top class event which will promote the sport but also leave a lasting legacy in the shape of this new track,” said IAAF President Lamine Diack, making reference to the construction of a brand new stadium at Moncton University specifically for this championship.

Last week, Prime Minister Stephen Harper committed $6 million in federal funding to the building of an outdoor stadium for Moncton if it won the right to host the championships.

The federal money is part of a $13-million infrastructure agreement to build facilities for the games at the University of Moncton.
